Heatherlie is a lovely Victorian home in the historic country town of Maldon. Influenced by villas from countryside Italy and France and furnished with pieces collected over years from markets both locally and overseas.

Interior Designer Joséphine Ryan

Joséphine Ryan lives between London and the sunny country of Uzès, in France. She has restored an abandoned village house in which she displays her collection of antiques with inspired simplicity.


Opening onto a corner of the garden, the dining room's main features are original such as the reddish clay flooring, wooden beams, and stone fireplace. Distressed Swedish wooden chairs surround the farm style table which was custom made.


The table in the dining room stands on a cream coloured cement tile rug. A 19th century chipped rocking chair in the corner on the right.


These rudimentary stairs lead from the dining room to the living room. Glass topped wrought iron round table. The lamp is made with a dark gray shade mounted on an 18th century architectural element. Church candlesticks found in Montpellier.


The vaulted ceiling in the kitchen was restored. Cupboards and tiled worktop were custom made. Lantern, table and chairs, Joséphine Ryan Antiques.


A former child's toy, two wooden frames and test tubes as flower vases on a rustic table.


Joséphine displays the articles from her shop in the attic.


White walls and rough stones in the guest room. A Moroccan rug covers part of the bed. The stairs leads to the children's room.


In a bathroom corner, mottled pottery from the region is arranged on distressed shelves.

Apartment in Barcelona

Second house tour for you today, dears!

This late 19th century apartment in Barcelona used to be quite dark, not because of the lack of windows but because what is now a spacious living and dining area used to be three different rooms separated by walls and halls. By knocking these walls down a single big space full of light and brightness was created. The original parquet herringbone flooring was restored and walls and ceiling were painted white.


Eclectic style with an interesting blend of modern and antique furniture. A reclaimed stone balustrade was used as a lamp base.


Wish there was a better photograph of the fireplace which is totally made of marble.


A Gustavian style console was placed behind the sofa.


Louis XVI armchair in this reading nook between the living room and dining area.


Antique leather upholstered chairs are combined with two white modern chairs in the dining room. The pictures on the wall are by Enrique Brinkmann.


The L shaped kitchen opens onto a balcony.


The bar in the kitchen is used both for storage space and as a breakfast table.


Marble sink and white lacquered modern cabinets.


I'm quite perplexed about seeing the same picture of an old lady both in the master bedroom and the living room.

House in Denmark

Henriette Staib and husband Claus have just completed a large scale renovation of an almost century old red brick house villa north of Copenhagen. Mostly white but with punches of colour in every room and an interesting mix of antique and modern furniture. Let's take a peek!
