House in Blauzac

Thank you dears for welcoming me so warmly ♥. Ha! Just learnt how to make that little heart. Yes, I'm aware most of you (all of you?) have known how to make one for a long time now but well, maybe I can share it with one or two of you. Just press Alt and 3. Voilá ♥! Bridge players surely know to press Alt 4, 5, and 6.

This house is in the French village of Blauzac. According to the article it used to be the town's ugliest building and was known as the cement lump. After four years, owners Linda and Claes Leyon transformed it into their home mixing old and new styles with lots of flea market finds.

So Nice to See You Again! And a Guesthouse in France

Hello once again, dear readers! Thanks so much for all your comments while I was away. I promise I will shortly be visiting you! I had a superb, lengthy, awesome holiday at home, Argentina, together with my eight kids. Thanks for asking!

And a very warm welcome to my new followers. Hope to see you around every day!

Back to our home tours, then! Maison-Travaux takes us to visit La Bergerie de Fontbonne, a guesthouse in France built against a hill, at the bottom of a valley. The period of construction is difficult to date as traditional building techniques have remained unchanged through the decades and even centuries. None of these buildings have foundations, but all are based on a double wall buried 25 cm deep. Architect Emmanuelle Stevenoot was in charge of renovating these four ancient barns which cover a floor area of 265 square metres. As the buildings stand on different heights, steps were used to connect one with another.

Medieval Manor in Devon

This might be my last post until January 23 so I'd like to wish you all a very merry Christmas, Happy New Year and happy holidays, and... try not to forget me!

And my last post before Christmas takes us to Devon, in England. Jan-Eric and Jennifer Österlund live in this 1830 manor house which has never been extended and is a typical medieval hall house. A 14th century manor all dressed up for Christmas. If you'd like to read the whole story just click here.

Four men were needed to carry the impressive tree into the great hall and a wooden frame was specially built to support it safely.

The oak door dates from the 1560s.

The fireplace in the great hall was installed by William Sherman; his initials and those of his wife are carved as part of the frieze. The Flemish tapestry, c1680, illustrates the Story of Samson.

Red and Green in Sweden
